The Prints
Whilst this page gives details regarding the prints, immediately below this paragraph you can locate links to prices and get an idea of the quality and detail in the prints. Please allow the Print Quality page time to load as the image files on it are larger than usual.
PRICES AND POSTING | PRINT QUALITY
Though many of the images on this site are still available as premium quality Fine Art Open Edition giclėe prints, a number of the images are now available for sale as premium quality Fine Art LIMITED EDITION giclėe prints which are restricted to 50 copies per image. Once an edition sells 10 copies, that edition's remaining prints will increase in price by 20% and once all images in an Edition are sold, the Edition will be retired ensuring that your investment increases in value and that no further images can be printed which would reduce that images exclusivity. Clicking on Purchase the Print below the image on the display page will allow you to view the available sizes for a particular print and their prices.
If your particular interest is in Limited Editions, you can find these prints more easily by going to the first display page in any given gallery and paging through the large display image pages where the Limited Editions are annotated as such below the image caption at the bottom of the page.
And you won't be disappointed. Click on print quality above for an idea of how the prints will look, but from making the image using best practice (i.e. using a tripod, remote switch and mirror lock-up for sharper stable shots), through to the final print, my over-riding aim - as it should be for any photographer - is to offer the best quality product possible. Images with a reference number of ISMACD... followed by four digits were captured using an 11.1 megapixel Canon EOS 1Ds digital camera, while all later images (numbered ISMACD_F or ISMACD_83F then a four digit number) have been captured with the class leading 21.1 megapixel EOS 1Ds Mk III Medium Format digital camera and are therefore, available in larger sizes.
Following a fully colour managed workflow, all prints are produced on Epson Stylus Pro professional printers and therefore, utilize Epson’s superb UltraViolet resistant (no need for expensive UV protective glass!) UltraChrome K3 ink set.
The Paper
The paper I've chosen to best represent the quality of my work is Hahnemhüle Fine Art Baryta gloss paper. Archival exhibition quality and featuring excellent detail, colour vibrancy and tonal range, this paper is the finest available. Combined with the giclėe print process prints on this paper surpass, literally, the quality possible in a darkroom and will last for just as long - up to 100 years in the case of Colour images and up to 200 years for Black and White, under normal lighting conditions, that is, avoid long term exposure to direct sunlight. Made in the same way as it's traditional darkroom predecessors, Hahnemhüle Fine Art Baryta is a heavy, (325gsm) true photographic paper on which prints look simply stunning in Colour and Black and White. You may wonder why I don't use Matte papers for some work, in particular Black and White, but no Matte paper can maintain the breadth of tones or depth of blacks that gloss paper can, and why compromise how the image looks at the final stage? Anyway, once you put it behind glass, apart from the loss of "umph" in the Matte, what's the difference?
To avoid the potential pitfalls of posting framed images and since I genuinely believe that framing is best done locally, to accurately compliment your own decor - all Baryta prints are shipped unframed.
Once printed, your investment will be checked by me and if it passes inspection allowed to air dry for at least 24 hours (if there's no rush 48), before being loosely rolled with a acid free tissue paper covering the printed surface. Any labels and print mounting instructions will be included with the package and the goods placed inside a wide bore image grade tube ready for shipping. LIMITED EDITIONS are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by me and detailing the print process, print information, image information (i.e. about where it was taken) and Edition number.
All prints have sufficient border to handle them without causing any problems, however, if handling the prints please be aware that the surface can be damaged. Limited Editions come complete with a pair of cotton gloves to remove the risk of accidental damage to your investment and though I probably don't need to suggest this, choose a framer you can trust to frame your print. Conservation quality framing costs more, but it's another vital part of the investment process.
Fuji Artists Canvas Prints
Canvas prints are printed on Fuji Artists Canvas normally at a minimum 20 inches (51cm) short side, however, other sizes can be made available (See the Print Quality page). Though, only selected prints will be made available on canvas - those that I think best suite the medium - if you see any print on the site that you would like on canvas, this can be arranged by contacting me at: iain@lightofgaeldom.com. Let me know which print you would like and whether you would prefer it Museum Wrapped (UK only) or not and I will contact you with a price and how to order.
Within the UK only, Canvas prints can be made available ready to hang Museum Wrapped, that is with the image overlapping the edges of the print but by using Photoshop to extend the edges of the image so that none of the original photograph is lost in the event that you decide for instance to place a frame around the edge of the image as is now quite popular. For shipping outside the UK Canvas prints will be posted in postal tubes like their paper counterparts only rolled around a cardboard core. Postage on un-framed prints will be the same as for those prints on the Fine Art Baryta paper.
